FCS Extension programs aim to improve the quality of individual and family life through education, research, and outreach.
What is Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)?
FCS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. FCS programming focus on building assets of individuals and families to address problems faced across the lifespan. Family and Consumer Sciences Extension emphasizes well-being with a focus on human development, parenting, resource management, nutrition, health and leadership development.
At the community level, FCS Extension prepares individuals for community and economic development and activity. Professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences Extension provide the tools to help individuals and families to develop resources for strengthening families and building community for an ever changing society.

Want to share your sewing skills with others? Apply today to become a Master Clothing Volunteer!
Applications due to the Grayson County Extension Office by May 15, 2026. Limited spots available.
Master Clothing Volunteers already know how to sew and feel comfortable teaching others to sew. They are able to commit to 60 hours per year.
Becoming a Master Clothing Volunteer helps support county programs, provides leadership skills, and promotes learning from fellow sewists.
Accepted applicants must attend the Fall Training in Cave City on October 19-22, 2026. There will be additional mandatory trainings in Fall of 2027 and Fall of 2028.

Are you interested in assisting the future of Alzheimer's and healthy aging research?
A remote research study tracking aging and dementia over time is looking for volunteers.
The Be BRIGHT Study is a remote, telephone-based study aimed at better understanding memory & thinking changes over time, as well as staying informed about other potential research opportunities. There is no cost to participate.
By joining Be BRIGHT, you can help researchers better understand aging and memory in everyone and indicate interest in being a part of further research.
What does be bright involve?
- A yearly 30-minute phone evaluation, including a brief memory test and survey about health and lifestyle
- A free annual brain health report
- Optional educational materials materials and survey questions
- Opportunity to participate in future research
How do I qualify for Be BRIGHT?
- Be over the age of 50 years old
- Have telephone or internet access
- Be within a 5-hour drive of Lexington, KY
