Grayson County Homemaker Food, Nutrition, & Health Activities for 2025-2026
November & December - Thankful Giving & Advent Giving of Food Supplies to the Grayson County Food Alliance are encouraged by individual Homemakers as well as collectively by each club. A list of specific food items requested by the Alliance is provided in the Community Connections section of the Grayson County Extension Homemakers website.
December 1, 3-4pm - Cookie Exchange hosted at the Extension Office. Participating members need to bring 3-4 dozen cookies or candies, 1 empty container, and a copy of your cookie or candy recipe. Platters of cookies will be placed around the room, sanitary gloves will be provided, and you will go around the room and collect 1-2 cookies from each platter until all selections are distributed. Participating members wishing to provide paper copies of their recipe must request copies from the Extension Staff in advance of the event. Alternately, anyone wishing to collect recipes at the event may take photos on their phones.
February (date TBA) - Community Connection activity will be a volunteer workday at the Grayson County Alliance Food Pantry for assembling food boxes for distribution.
Ongoing Activities Throughout the Year:
Blessing Boxes - Encourage Homemakers to utilize and provide items for the "Blessing Boxes" located in the following known locations: Caneyville Baptist Church, Leitchfield Clearview Baptist Church, Clarkson Community Church, and Clarkson Methodist Church. Requested items are non-perishable foods (peel open lids of canned foods when possible), socks, gloves or mittens, hats, blankets, etc. Motto and principle for the boxes being, "Take what you need and leave what you can."
Collect & Recycle Grocery Bags for the Grayson Co. Food Alliance. Clubs are requested to consolidate bags and designate a member to drop off to the Alliance or by individual participation. We do not collect these at the Extension Office unless specified.
Recipes of the Month will be provided each month as a handout at club meetings or in the bi-monthly Extension Homemaker Newsletter, "News + Notes". Please submit favorite recipes for sharing to Teresa Buckles, Grayson County Food, Nutrition & Health Chairman: 270-589-1611 or teresa.buckles@yahoo.com
